~Madison SFT coming together to do an event for the Nangpa La shooting in September 30, 2006.

~Nangpa la: A glacier saddle (pass) 19,050 feet high lying in the Himalayas on the NepaleseTibetan border, it forms part of the trade route between Tibet and the valley of Khumbu region of Nepal.

~Background Info: Tibet was once an independent nation but today is occupied by the Communist Chinese government.Tibet's ancient and unique civilization and ecosystem have been and continue to be faced with extinction due to 58 years of mismanagement and abuse under its colonial ruler, the People's Republic of China. The Chinese government led by Mao Zedong with his massive army entered and asserted its presence, killing thousands of Tibetans, in Tibet in 1959. In the tense political environment that ensued, the Dalai Lama fled to India and set up the government in exile in Dharamsala, India. The ongoing destruction of Tibet and danger led many Tibetans to flee to H.H the Dalai Lama in India. Like many other Tibetan refugee tales, this is the story of 75 Tibetan who wanted to seek a better education in Tibetan schools or monasteries in India, as they dont get either opportunity to go to school or religious freedom in Chinese occupied Tibet. They came together from Lhasa in a truck, drove for two days and reached a place from where they walked for about 20 days, until they reached near the Nangpa La Pass.
