My good friend Cj and I in his 1974 Plymouth Valiant 4 door doing some runs with the G-Tech unit Cj borrowed. He has a 248CI slant with long rods, and an Edelbrock 4 barrel. Considering that the car weighed 3800 lbs even with us in it, it did well. This car consistently runs mid 16s in the quarter.

  • No way that Valiant weighs 3800... Optioned to the gills, and full of gas and dripping wet, it shouldn't even reach 3600.

  • Not by itself no, you are correct. This car has been modified with structural supports, heavier duty suspension and drivetrain parts, not to mention he and I in the car.

We went across the local CAT scale at exactly 3800 lbs, which is the only reason I know it was that heavy. We've installed various fiberglass parts on the front in place of the metal components to lighten the car. It weighs considerably less now.

  • With the lightweight parts on there, we now roll across the scales at 3580. The car will pull low 16's in the quarter according to the G-Tech. He ran some trials before I showed up.

  • Love the sound of that slant six. And a quarter mile @ 80mph is cooking for a slant.

  • Yea, and that was with a 3800 lb car... O_o

  • What was the time to reach 80 mph in this test?Cool sounds great...

  • How many seconds did it take to get that 80mph?It sounds good the engine does.

  • 3800? my 71 fury only weighs 3900 and its at least three times as large. my 74 valiant crossed the scales at 3040lbs with a 318 and 904 tranny

  • Nice old slant! One of the meanest sounding 6 cylinder engines ever.
