This was my entry to the 2007 straight 8 competition. To enter you are required to make a film using a cartridge of super 8 film, This is shot and edited whilst filming, i.e sequential scenes or clever techniques as you never see the footage-it is sent back to be developed. You sit at home hoping it went well. Most films have a soundtrack that simply is the same length as the film, I wanted to do it in sync. This is my attempt-Many thanks to everyone who helped, and sorry for the swearing, I will never find the money for the wrap party so here it is, and I owe you all a drink. Thanks so much guys!

  • This film will be shown as part of the Cambridge super 8 festival, 24th april. Please come and support this event!

  • That was brilliant! How did you deal with the sound? Shoot it first and take notes of exactly where the sound effects & dialog should fall?

  • Hi thank you, I joined a DV camera (£15 from a charity shop!) to the super8, the onboard microphone recorded the sound of the shutter and the camera followed the same panning shots etc. By analising the soundwaves, i could cut a digital version around what I thought had come out on the Super8. you might notice a jump in the murder scene, here the super8 jammed! Later I recorded the dialogue and hoped it fit-it did! Most of the foley work is me with paper, doors, etc, etc.

  • What an inventive idea. How did you get the super 8 to sync with the sound?

  • great!!

  • i've got a super8 now too but will never manage anything this good!

  • great done!!!!!! what a black humor, guy!!!!! loving yann tiersen!

  • A nice charming film ! There's something old fashioned in it I like a lot !

  • Very ingenious! Kind of like a homemade video assist. I've been thinking about entering one of those "Attack of the 50 Foot Reels" shows someday. Now if I need sync effects I know how it might be done.
