Swan Lake Belly Dance Ballet - Sabrina & Sabra Dancers

Sabrina & the Sabra Dancers perform Sabrina's belly dance / ballet fusion of Swan Lake in 7 minutes. The Sabra Dancers (in order of appearance Vilia, Dilek,Estrella, Ana and Sabrina - all award winning solo artist! ) were honored to perform for the annual YMCA benefit concert. In honor of the occasion, Sabrina decided to do the impossible and present highlights from the classic ballet Swan Lake, using primarily belly dance movement, in under 7 minutes.

The result was a fun fusion of modern Isis Wings for Swan Maidens; Egyptian Folkloric Melaya Leff and Khaleeji dancers from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as ladies attending the Prince's birthday ball.

Odile in her black Khaleeji thobe, masquerades as Odette, and performs an Egyptian Saidi cane solo after Baron Von Rothbart magically changes her appearance into that of Odette the white swan, in an effort to trick the Prince into believing Odile is Odette.

In an effort to stay true to traditional Egyptian Folkloric Dance, my Saidi Cane variation was improvised on stage. (authenticity can require nerves of steel and a solid prayer ;)

The ball concludes with an ensemble piece with zills / finger cymbals which are traditional in belly dance and Middle Eastern and Mediterranean music, but here are played in contrast to the very traditional Western symphonic music.

At the next annual YMCA Benefit Concert, I will present the Kitri Variation from the ballet Don Quixote, danced with traditional belly dance movements. Rumor has it, I will have a live string quartet on stage with me! Can't wait to share the footage with you.

@girl112791 I'm planning on choreographing a ballet-belly fusion soon :) I love the femininity of both cultures and I think a mixture of slow veils and fast ballet turns would be beautiful. Still just in my head... but one day ;) i will keep u posted if your interested

Glad you liked it. The intent of this piece is belly dance movement set to classical ballet music and story line, that's why you didn't see ballet movements fused, 'cause they weren't there :) The word "ballet" in the video title refers to the music and the telling of a story through dance movement set to music; not classical ballet movements fused to belly dance movements. Didn't mean to cause any confusion in the search results.

second belly/ballet that wasnt what I was looking for, but at least this one was better! I see hip hop and ballet mix so well. I think the problem here is not knowing where and what role to place belly and ballet when putting together. I never see enough of wither. This one seemed more like it was only belly dancing, with more grace of course, but no ballet. Besides that, great video! ^_^
