Also, if you don't want to spank your children that is your business, if someone else wants to, that is theirs. There is a solid line between abusing, and spanking. Smacking their hand or butt is not going to ruin their tiny minds or turn them into violent adults. There are no such examples, an adult who has commited a violent crime cannot be simplified into "they were spanked as a child" or "they played too many violent video games". Who you are is the sum of your entire life experience.

It is a terrible disservice to your children to baby them as they grow up. They come to expect that the whole world is there to make them happy. The goal of raising children is to turn them into production adults and so many parents are loosing sight of that goal thinking their babys will be their babys forever. They will have increased depression/anxiety/stress and what have you if you don't give them an honest view of the world you will be setting them loose in.

Just because you spank your children doesn't mean you do it out of "giving up or reaching the breaking point'. Believe it or not there are people who feel smacking their childs butt is an effective to to teach a child.  Kissing them on their nose after you place it in the corner of their room isn't going to curb their curiosity of the electrical sockets on the wall...or stop them from smacking and biting their sister.

i love how every person who is pro spanking gives some bs emotional appeal to fundamentalism. spare the rod spoil the child is not science or fact. any person who spanks a child can go fuck themselves.

We human beings have a terrible capacity for cruelty. Spanking should be for adult recreation only (akin to medieval reenactment pleasures). 'Reasonable' spankings is a theory that just doesn't stand up in practice. Life and people are too complicated and corruptible. I say set the highest standards possible because you can guarantee that normal practice will fall well below the bar, wherever it is set. Spanking is like a naked flame; its just too dangerous to have around the house.

I have never met a parent that did not spank their child and later regret it. because their children are always the most well behaved. so people stop lieing to yourself and trying to make yourself beleive that spanked kids are better behaved to make yourself feel better. because they are not !

Well, when I was a child my mother used to spank me almost everyday. With the hand, the belt, the woodenspoon and other implements. Now I am grown, she doesn't beat me anymore, but when my mother yells about something while I'm sleeping, I still wake up immediately and my heart begins to beat very fast. It's no respect, it's fear.

That may help the parent calm down, but meanwhile you have an ignorant (Yes), defiant (Yes) and self-absorbed (YES) child disobedient more than ever, and this woman wants to have an adult conversation with the child!?? Unbelievable. Don't beat your children, but remember, spare the rod and you will spoil the child.
