A demo of my brain computer interface for controlling a synth.

This video is an 'overflow' for the one on my website as I don't have the bandwidth at the moment.

  • It's ERP recognition. There's a paper on it. Actually, there's loads of papers on it.

  • I'm writing the experiment up for publication and the paper will include some code and a description of the method.

  • Keep up the good work man. This is freaking awesome.

However this is an old video. Where is your project now ?

    Did you improve it ?

  • Why is he calling out the note if he is just trying to play a note using only his want for the note. A computer program is supposed to be running in the background that understands what note(s) he wants to play.

  • @Yanarchist

That would be totally awesome, but I think what will come sooner is the ability to control potentiometers with brain waves.

I think this can be trained using a simple oscillator and then adapted for controlling almost every aspect of a (VST) synth / Ableton Live...

    Look mom, no hands!

  • It's a good start for live music composition. With more power you'll just have to think about a sound of any instrument, and the computer will recognize it. (simply by programing a ''tought bank'' matching all the possibilities of the program. exemple: it asks you to thing about a piano, records the brain wave and thats it. It has to be perform for every instruments, and individual notes. then individual users)

Then we'll be able to compose. live from our thoughts...Can't wait to live this!

  • what the fuck he just speaking the words.... try with not speaking any words... then it will be great....

  • hoping we will have this kind of using our brain to control the sequence and and synths ... it might be better on live performance while you are playing piano or a synth haha

  • May be amazing make music with that controller, and the computer, sound difficult, i dont know if that is that.

  • Kinda slow making a tune though. Good for the disabled. Try an Emotive systems device.
