Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's prime minister, is under huge pressure to resign over his failure to deal with that country's debt crisis.

Italian government bond markets have suffered badly as the political uncertainty continues.

Early on Monday strong rumours suggested Berlusconi was about to resign, but as Al Jazeera's Tania Page reports, he's staying put for now.

  • If Silvio Berlusconi is not thrown out of the office for good, then Italy really deserves to go broke and turn into a 3rd-World Shithole of Europe w/in next few years...

Well its true the USA has 15 trillion debt however the US debt is like 98 percent of the economy(yeah I know its fucking bad). while Italian debt is like 120 percent of the economy. The US can still pay but the Italians well that is another matter altogether.

  • Berlusconi is not very good, but the problem we have in italy are bigger than just him. Whole country is rotten

  • A certain Mussolini posture - all he's missing is the uniform and the silly cap - your like us in America elect the idiots that think getting public office means to SPEND MONEY! We see where that get's us - I hate my Congress in America - serve a year or two and move on - don't need fossilized politicians with no change in politics anymore. Public Service should not be a retirement program for politicians here or abroad!

  • @carloscruz12388 Well said :=) Only one thing.. The interests of the unelected investors is not totally unknown - it's the same as always - money and power.

  • Better a Berlose-gone than a Berlusconi as PM.He has always been a very risky Ber-losecanon.

  • Latest - Berlusconi has declared he will resign.
