exceptionally polite Stagecoach bus driver

Bus follows cyclists carefully. It may not be obvious in the video but the driver could have overtaken these cyclists further back but chose to keep an eye on them and protect them from other traffic. The bus was clearly the most politely driven vehicle on the road.

The point is, cyclists have bad experiences with buses overtaking, then immediately pulling over and stopping. If it's bad, you either get caught on the inside of a vehicle moving towards the kerb, or lungs full of diesel and your safe braking space taken away. When it's done nicely, this should be recognised and is appreciated.

as a bus driver for stagecoach, i wait and give way the forms are lond and boring if we have a crunch, To your comment about buses overtaking, cyclists do 15-20mph we can not hold up a row of traffic, i never go around a cyclist if i know i have to pull over at the next stop but quite often a passenger will ring the bell quite late. i would also ask cyclists not to come up the inside of my vehicle at lights so I have to sit behind them until safe to pass

Nice comments thank you - It's much worse than forms if a cyclist is involved in a "crunch" as we have no protective metal cage around us and fragile bodies. There are many polite bus drivers about - I'm sure you're one of them

Id say the bus driver did good on this one, This is typically how i react...either give them plenty of room or accept ill be crawling along for a bit.

I always follow cyclists to bus stops. They only pass you at the next one and there is always loads of running time on most routes.

@proudenglish1984 Good comment! If more people tried to understand the needs of other road users, no matter what method of transport they're using, the roads would be far safer. Yeh I know we're slow, and I also know that when I'm driving being stuck behind someone travelling very slowly can be a pain, but often a small amount of patience can avoid nasty accidents. When I'm on my bike I also try to make way for faster traffic, so long as I don't endanger myself, and NEVER undertake!
