Mount Lowe Railway Theme

The Mt. Lowe Railway was located in the mountains of Southern California from the late 1890s to the late 1930s. My father said at one time you could see the lights of the incline cars going up to the top of Echo Mountain. I hiked up there once when I was just a kid. So sad that it is all gone now, and that most of the people that remembered it ,have passed on.

I wrote this song for the new Black Irish Band new re-release of "Hear the Lonesome Whistle Blow" (the railroad album). The recording is a very simple mix of instruments. I perform on the Concertina, while band mate Steve mcArthur performs on Piano, and then on Pipe Organ. Rick from the band performed on Cornet. I wanted the song to have a merry-go-round feel to it so I played bells and added the drum. The bridge of the song was designed to give a feeling of moving upwards into the clouds.

Very cool, and it definitely has a sort of light-hearted "merry-go-round" feel. It's sad that so many of the old inclines were abandoned and forgotten before the age of preservation.
