The Verdict
Ok. Let's get the facts out there first.
Today in the Magistrate's Court I was convicted on four charges of breaching Suppression Orders and acquitted of one.
They stemmed from a Name Them and Shame Them public rally I held on the steps of the Victorian Parliament House back in 2008. And from two editorials published on my www.hinch.net website.
I now face a maximum sentence of four years in jail and more than $50,000 in fines.
Today in court the magistrate canvassed a number of penalty options including home detention. The OPP handed up my prior convictions and said they would be looking for a period of incarceration.
We got back to court on June 21 for a pre-sentencing hearing at which I will be representing myself. I have had brilliant legal support on this long and winding journey and I know the adage about 'a man who represents himself in court has a fool for a client.'
