This was done for the final project of my Advanced Video Productions class. We only had 3 weeks to do it (so most of us were scrambling to get it done, and some of us teamed up on our stuff to get it done faster, once the teach told us she was okay with that). We had to come up with the A.) Treatment, B.) Script, C.) Pre-production estimations, D.) Gain permission to do the ad, E.) Capture & edit together the footage, and do D.) Post-production corrections. I think I had guessed that it was gonna run around $2,500.00, but ended up being about $1,200.00 below that (smarter/faster shoot times, less time spent editing & arranging, etc.). I should note, that the Production part was only for us to get some practice at doing it (doesn't seriously apply to this).

This version is the slightly edited turn-in that I gave to the owner of the pub (note the absence of credits). I handed it to him like 3 weeks ago now and have yet to hear back (left my contact info on the CD sleeve). Though I haven't been back up that way since due to being busy with other things (perhaps its the way he prefers to do business, dunno). So I figure he doesn't wanna use it for anything and is cool with my posting it here.

Course, I wouldn't blame him for not wanting to use this, because even I kick myself for the shoddy camera work on this. Though, in my defense it was the first time I had tried to use my Canon Rebel T1i to shoot any video (thinkin I might need a new/better lens, since the one on there now is the default 18-55 MM one that came with it). My buddy Jon...

Helped me capture additional footage for this (using his Sony handheld, blanking on the model number at the mo', sorry). And his stuff is seen at the end (the bit with the pub's logo on the Menu, super edited down to the 1 freeze frame, done at the teacher's request/suggestion).

For editing, video-side- I used both Final Cut Pro (school) and Final Cut Express (home) to piece this baby together. I decided that it'd be better (and I'd get more practice) if I did 2 versions of this. Both versions are pretty much identical, minus a couple of different shots (like for the bar/beverages part) and the final edits (made at home after I had a chance to speak with the teach about it, her review notes).
On the audio-side- I am the one who is doing the voice over here. Recorded at home on my MacBook pro using the built-in mic & Logic Express 8. The song you hear in the background is a remix of the traditional Irish folk song "Morning Dew" (not to be confused by the alt-rock song of the same name, haha). I made it with Magix Music Maker 14 using a midi file I found for it online & with some drum loops I made using iZotope's iDrum.
Side-note= I might be posting a basic music video to the Morning Dew remix here shortly (either the current short vers or a longer extended mix of it). So keep your eyes posted for that.

Anyways, if you're ever down this way and wanna have a pint (or a plate of yummy food) then I strongly recommend that ya swing by and check 'em out. Here's a link to their web site...

PS. I didn't know there was a limit on the number of tags we could input (how silly).

  • Yes!!! You finally posted it. The food is great there. The video is pretty well done. I think that you should talk to the owner there and try to get this ad on TV.
