Saint Emilion Daytrip captured and visited on the 3rd of March 2009. Some of the places seen:
" The Cordeliersmonastery and cloister "
This monastery, built by the Franciscan monks, a mendicant order, dates from the end of the fourteenth Century. It is well worth a visit and the atmosphere invites you to take your time. The ivy and plants which cover the former monastery are also quite attractive.
" The «Castel Daou Rey» (or Chateau du Roy), the kings tower "
It is a massive construction, and the only remains of what is believed to have been the kings castle. This fortress was the symbol of royal power within the walls of the free town.
" The bell tower of the monolithic church "
Located directly above the monolithic church, the bell tower was built between the XIIth and the XVth Centuries. It towers 133 meters over the Place de lEglise Monolithe (mponolithic church square)
"Chateau Clos des Menuts"
Located inside the walls of the old city, the cellar Chateau Cardinal-Villemaurine has superb cellars. On the ground floor very polite and professional waiters will suggest you fine wines choosing among a lot of bottles.
