(SIOUX CITY, IA) Back in August, nearly 2,900 members of the 34th Infantry Division reported for duty before departing for the combat theater in Afghanistan. Sergeant Andy Doscher was one of those soldiers, and today he made his way home to his friends and loved ones.

Thursday afternoon marked the return of over 70 members of the 334th Brigade Support Battalion from their service in Afghanistan. For the Doscher family, they couldn't be happier to have their son back home.

"It was very emotional, very emotional when he went away and coming back is emotional as well. We're very proud of not only him, but the entire squad and all of the soldiers, all over the world," says Steve Doscher, Sgt. Doscher's father.

Having spent over 300 days away from their son, the distance was tough on the family.

"There was a lot of sleepless nights at first, but it's a lot easier now with Skype and stuff so we were able to talk to him almost every day so that made it a lot easier, compared to a few years ago," says Sgt. Doscher's mother, Connie.

Stephanie Davies also tried to stay positive while waiting for her boyfriend to return home.

"You just, you wait for that next phone call, you never know when it's coming but you just wait for it and when you get you're just so happy and you can't wait for the next one," says Davies.

Now that Sergeant Doscher has returned home, everyone has plans to make up for that lost time.

"I just want to go home. Get him home with the dogs and enjoy him being home on the couch with me," says Davies.

"I'm ready to go home. It's been a long year, I missed her, she's everything to me," says Sgt. Doscher.

Depending on a soldier's time left with the guard, there's always a chance they could get called back up. But Sgt. Doscher says at this point it's not likely he'll be headed overseas anytime soon.
