My top 10 favourite 2D platformers

Now I do a list on my top 10 personal favourite 2D platformer games. Rules are
1. only 1 game per franchise
and
2. it has to be 2D.

Update. As this list is dated I would probably now put New Super Mario Bros somewhere on this list. I just hadn't played it then. Also I've officialy decided Mega Man 9 is my favourite Mega Man game (but 2 still comes very close).
