to outrider52, of course he latches onto his theory, mainly because it's HIS theory and he has to defend it. This is the very essence of the academic debate and Majone and Moravcsik have greatly improved the debate in this area. Even if you disagree with him you have to come up with better evidence in order to show that he's wrong. To say that "he is a joke" reveals your ignorance on this issue.
to Ermintrude75, imagine this: what if British people are forced into this political and economic union with 27 other states, because they are largely ignorant about the fact that the EU not only greatly benefits the UK, but also ensures political stability on a continent that has for centuries been plagued by countless wars? Btw it was the Tories in the 1970s, who had been elected by the British people (so much for "against the will of the people"), who made British membership possible.
How is being forced into a polical union against the will of the people democratic?
Imagine this: The US is moving into a union with Mexico and the central american countries against the wishes of the majority of people of both right and left political persausions. The leadership (but not the grassroots) of the Republican and Democrat parties support the union. It does not matter who you vote for, you are voting for more union regardless.
Regardless of how the EU reforms itself, naysayers will always complain: currently they complain about democratic deficiency, but if all power is given to the European Parliament they cry federalism.
According to Aristotle (coming from the ppl who invented Democracy stated this is a corrupted system). Yes show us some American Empire cartoon videos, no wonder Americans are intellectually bankrupt.
He is so right... You should listen carefully to his language, or listen to the whole speech. He's actually saying that the EU is the best example of international cooperation... And his characterization of crankiness, in that one statement, is spot on.
Why do people think the EU and Europe are the same?

This is what people of the UK face.

The big problem with the UE is that it will propose a vote until the population vote "yes".
