I loved old Sierra games, they were my favorites. I'd love to see another great "quest" game, I wish Vivendi would treat these great old games with respect, or at least realize that alot of old fans are willing to spend money to see a new adventure game!

@myyellowdream dude THIS WAS like early to mid 90s calm that ass down

Hi! What games have you made? Would be good to see 'em! :)
They're talking about KQ6 taking a million dollars. That was a big game, with a lot of staff, and high end artists.
Sierra would have been spending a lot of money at the time, and a lot of time making a game like KQ6. They were even doing rotoscoping, filming characters with green screen, and animating over that.
You can see that they would have spent a lot all up.
Go Roberta, Ken, and Sierra old schoolers! :)

it costs a lot more nowadays to make a 5 star game! not to mention that freebasic wasnt around at the time and quickbasic would have looked like mysteryhouse did with stick figures.
and not to bash your video games (which i havent looked at but will look at since its 2 years later since you posted that comment) i guarantee that it will not equal KQ6 in quality!

@myyellowdream ... I think you are forgetting it is not just the game design that costs the money there is also art work on packaging and adverts and promos and getting the word out etc, Then there is game ratings and game tester and so on..... And back in the day I don't think people would be interested in buy games from some one who created games in their mums basement.. These days you could get away with it because there are more professional tools to use that don't cost as much as before

"DIEING for a drink Graham?"

@myyellowdream Yeah but i can bet anything you do by your self wont be nearly as good as Kings Quest

I miss all the old school adventure games! I literallty ate, drank, sweat and slept Space Quest and Police Quest, loved those game today still.
Love this game! But my questions is, why a million dollars? Surely it was only because the technology was so new. I can literally draw, paint, scan, animate, AND program an adventure game entirely by myself. I'm working on several games right now, not using any game-creator kit Actually, FreeBasic programming language. It's costing me only a little bit for paints and pencils and things. I grew up programming. It just kinda cracks me up that a million dollars was necessary to make Kings Quest!

Don't forget the money they had to PAY these people to draw, paint, scan, program, AND do the voices. A year's work for a team like that can easily run a million dollars.

Sierra is potentially losing a lot of money by not making another old-school style quest/adventure game.
The execs behind transformers thought their best bet for years was to dump the entire old 80's line and market all new crap. Then the new transformers movie came out and showed everyone there's HUGE-ass demand for that older stuff.
Same with the king's quest/space quest etc type games. Massive, massive demand from people who grew up with it and new people who'd also like it.

That's because Sierra is not Sierra anymore, only in name. They're now owned by Vivendi Universal games, which refuses to do anything with Sierra's property other than ruining Leisure Suit Larry to the point where people hate the games. Yay, Vivendi!
