We have the Battle Ship Alabama BB 60 here in my hometown of Mobile Alabama. I'm proud to be in the small number who assisted in it's procurement and removel from the mothball fleet in Bremerton Washington to Mobile, by becoming a Rear Admiral in the Alabama Navy. I fly my two star flag on my wall above my computer.

how many captains where on the Missouri ?
-
My husband was a young Navy man who was there. He had the job of bringing the captain of his ship (the Lenowee) to the ceremony and was cruising the nearby waters while the ceremony was underway.

It's Mighty MO, but it does say Big Mo at the Big Mo snack shack in the galley

My Father-in-Law served on BB-63 and was aboard for the surrender. He called it the Big Mo so it was good enough for me!!
By any name, a grand and historic ship!

Thanks for posting! I noticed that you had the tour guide all to yourselves, is this common? Was she Navy, former Navy or Parks service? How long was the tour? Are you free to later go where you want?

We were part of a group of about 7 people. Getting to the ship early helped out a lot.
The guide works for the non-profit that operates the memorial. She really knew her stuff and history.
You aren't allowed to wander off anywhere but you do get a lot of freedom to roam around the areas on the tour and there is no pressure to move on to the next stop.
We saw just about everything except for the engine room compartment.
It's a fabulous tour.

BB63 is run by a private foundation now. They do a remarkable job keeping the ship....shipshape.
