We met Matthew in October 2008 by accident, as we walked past his ad hoc art gallery in SoHo. I'm glad I had the camera along and sorry I left this video in the can for so long afterward.

Matthew is part outsider artist and part beat poet. His verbal gifts are obscured a bit by their rapid-fire nature (some find it a little overwhelming!) but listen twice and you'll appreciate the metaphors and associations.

If you live in The City (or ever visit), look for Matthew next to the J. Crew and give him a shout out from the salt and pepper Hamlet. I hope he's well.

(Shot with Sony Handicam HDR-SR11,
edited on iMovie 11.)

  • Wow, haven't seen Matthew in a long time.. You would not believe how handsome, well put together, and what presence he had in the 1980's when I knew him...And yes, that voice he had, nothing like this...was truly awesome..

I will have to get myself to SoHo and visit..the art is lovely, I'm just sorry he has gone through such a rough time..
