The South Korean military has staged an exercise near the sea border on the first anniversary of Yeonpyeong shelling.
The Northwest Islands Defense Command, in operation since the DPRK attack last year, Air Force Operations Command and the Navy Operations Command participated in the exercise. It was overseen by the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The hypothetical scenario was a shelling attack by DPRK on the islands such as Yeonpyeong and Baengnyeong near the disputed sea border called the Northern Limit Line.
The line was unilaterally drawn 58 years ago by the US-led allied forces at the end of the Korean War, but Pyongyang has never recognized it.
