  • In other words God has Dammed America. Sounds familiar to anyone out there.

  • @fitzy098 Well your absolutely right in that respect. Remember their is a distinction between those who are "religious" and those who are "Christian". People often claim to be the voice of God or Allah yet simply use that as a way to further their own hateful agenda- the likes of the Ayatollah, Bin Laden, Hitler, several of the Popes and Fred Phelps fit under this category. But I do not despise Pat Robertson, in fact I really do admire him and regard him as a man of sincere, honest faith.

  • @MrEnlighteneddespot

Ideologically speaking, I will not discount the view of a "true Christian". There have been good men in history, many of whom had aligned themselves to organised religion, but were still reasonable. Figures who have been loyal to their faith and his humanism include: St. Thomas Aquinas, Thomas More, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, etc. I do not despise faith in itself; my quarrel is with the moral perversion and corruptibility of organised religion.

  • @fitzy098 Its your interpretation overall, however I really cannot see how somebody as hateful, twisted and deluded as Adolf Hitler could possible be considered a man of true earnest faith. Its a common statement that you cannot be a Christian and be either a Fascist or a communist. No true Christian would either commit the atrocities performed under Hitler, or Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot or Robespierre for that matter.

  • @MrEnlighteneddespot

Hitler did not despise the idea of a God; rather his contempt was aimed at the perversion of Catholicism in the state. It is undoubtedly true that he wanted to separate its influence from the Reich, but Hitler had more in common with the Catholic institution than paganism. I will admit that an anti-Catholic sentiment persisted in other Nazi leaders like Joseph Goebbels, Alfred Rosenberg, Martin Bormann, Richard Walter Darre, and Erich Koch.

  • @fitzy098 I think you will find historical facts tell a different story. Hitler hated the idea of a 'God' or organised religion which would erode his power. He only used religion as a ploy to further his grip on power. If Germans were convinced God was on Hitlers side, they would'nt dare oppose him. Meanwhile, Catholic priests were placed in camps, Hitler actively encouraged Germans to worship at the pagan Reich Church and Goebbels stated 'religious ideas on forgiveness don't quite suit us'.

  • @MrEnlighteneddespot

Those wars were all still underpinned by theological attitudes. Hitler wasn't an Atheist, either. It's a specious argument that has been misrepresented throughout popular history. He was a Roman Catholic and many policies reflect this, including: The Fuhrer oath "I swear by God this holy oath"; the Vatican Concordat; SS belts were inscribed "Gott Mit Uns" (God With Us); He referred to his ruling as the hand of providence several times in his addresses, etc.

  • @fitzy098 Well that is absolute rubbish! 'every major conflict..has been committed under the name of God'!>? Mate, you studied history? Don't recall the two World wars, the American and English Civil wars, Vietnam War, Falklands war, Napoleonic wars, wars of Ancient times under Alexander the Great ever being committed in the name of God. Nor were the atrocities in the name of Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin or Robespierre seen as God's will- the will of satanic secular Atheists.

  • @MrEnlighteneddespot

Would you prefer the zealotry and unconscionable inhumanity of organised religion over secularism? Every major conflict, every war of attrition, every ideological crusade has been committed under the name of God. Religion has impeded the artistic and intellectual development of human beings since it was discovered.

  • Jerry Falwell was out of line with his comments regarding September 11. Although the pair are right in terms of how the secularisation of the Western world is doing no good whatsover and we can't expect God to bless us if with one voice we rise in rebellion. The 9/11 attacks were a man made event, therefore I would argue God was responsible however they do have a point about the danger of secularisation.
