West bound CP 5930 WITH #431 is seen exiting the Red Sucker tunnel on the Nipigon sub. The northshore of Lake Superior, per mile, was the most expensive section of the CP to build. It had to be carved out of rock, and ledges built for the ROW. Although it is a very isolated, and it takes a good bit of hiking into bear country, the scenery is worth it.

  • is there an electric railway there there are wires ontop

  • @tofu46 Thats a slide fence. The area is so rugged that it is a sheer rock cliff 100's of feet up. The post are strung with wire, and if rocks come down, it brakes the wire and sets a stop indication on the signal. Thanks for watching...

  • He must have been really surprised to see a railfan in the middle of nowhere like that..lol awsome shot, love little isolated places like that.

  • Thats for sure. We got in there easy enough when the forman road us in the highrail truck, but we still had to hike out. We like places you have to work at, and a 10 mile hike would be nothing for the right shot. Take care. Jack...

  • Very cool train shot how far away from the water is this?

  • If I step to my right about 5 feet, I will fall over the side into the lake. Thanks for looking, Jack
