@MoveOverCasanova (He mentions coming back from Hollywood wearing a red bandanna in the song, which is why I mentioned it.) I'm familiar with Randy Newman & have loved his stuff since the early 70's. His lyrics are deceptively simple but convey so very much.

@MoveOverCasanova The only significance I know for a red bandanna is as a Blood's gang insignia. I think that the Bloods originated in L.A.. Maybe Hollywood has usurped the insignia as a sign of "coolness"?

at the end newman looks a bit easily annoyed and amused about the audience´s obvious non undertsanding of the lyrics, but he maybe asks too much of a german audience. only people who know his songs well laugh at the right moments - but usually no soul here knows what a "red bandana" is - neither do I!
