  • hi there ,thanks for the reply ,

im not too bad with formal fonts such as times roman, etc

its any type of script i struggle with ,i can never get a nice thin stroke to join the letters up , the brush just wont flow from the bottom of one letter to the top of the next without flatting out, i know that its because im using my left hand so the nature of the brush is wrong, but i cant seem to work out another way !

any tips or dvd's for lefties you know of would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks j

  • @BBoyBiff

yeah thats a tough one for us lefties. when painting script fonts its un-natural to push up on a brushstroke.

i usually use the full face of the brush on the down stroke then flick up a little on the upstroke using the edge of the brush, then start the join to the next letter from top to bottom using the edge of the brush again.

hope you know what i mean? and i hope it helps. its just more practise.

(i dont know of any dvds for lefties. maybe we should make one?) haha

    cheers

  • hi there love your work !

i was suprised to see left handed signwriting as in am a left handed artist and was told it was unteachable , i tried for a couple of years ,but never got the mahl stick right for the brushes nature! i would love you to give me a few pointers if possible as i ve been bashing my head on this one for so long! great work! cheers j

  • @BBoyBiff

i was told that too...but as you see it is very possible!

the guy who taught me was left handed all his life but they made him signwrite right handed. he ended up only being able to paint wright handed with a brush and write left handed with a pen. its what ever you practice that you become good at. he told me that ''if i told you to paint with the paint brush up your butt that you would eventually learn to write this way and become very good at it''. haha.

    what you need help with?

  • Well,,

    Im 17yrs old painter..

and i work in my ART&SIGN in Philippines..

But my skills in lettering cant fight the technology

Control Number of some TRICYCLE is my favorite...

  • @2Rendezvous7

the idea is not to fight the technology but to offer something that is better visually and longer lasting than it.

the signs on these trucks last at least 3 times as long as they would otherwise, so it ends up cheaper for them in the long run.

    cheers

see all
