The night of Nov. 8, 2010, marked the last Austin City Limits taping in KLRU's Studio 6A on the UT Campus. This is a behind the scenes video focused upon the last song played as part of ACL in Studio 6A. Lyle Lovett played "Closing Time" and invited the staff and crew on stage with him to celebrate this momentous event.
Come next spring, we'll be hosting bands in the brand-spanking-new Moody Theater in the heart of downtown Austin. Monday's taping with Lyle Lovett was the perfect way to say goodbye to this chapter of ACL. As Executive Producer Terry Lickona said in his stage introduction of Lovett, "He represents the past, present, and future of Austin City Limits." Lovett became friends with many on the ACL crew even before his first appearance as a backup singer with Nanci Griffith in 1985; he has been featured on the show a dozen times. For many of us who work on ACL, the highlight of the evening was when Lovett invited all of the longtime staff and crew to the stage for "Closing Time," the evening's final song.
Lyle Lovett, what an expressive singer, songwriter, so professional, what a class performer.

So appropriate. One of the classic gems of Lovett's catalogue.
