If this speech were given today by a British PM, he / she would be shunned as a radical. Our problems today are easily solved.

@9753241860hb There must be some middle ground but you don't see Capitalists taking people's freedom and, more importantly, incarcerating/executing opponents. Never forget that Fabian Socialists see their way as the only way and and intentionally cause chaos, which they seek "order" from. I see great wisdom in Libertarians like Thomas Sowell. Thatcher has been proven right about wanting nothing to do with the EU. Australia is currently being held to ransom by far left industry destroying loons.

@muzzster1970 No not under communism but there is no society that is completely capitalist or completely communist theres shades in between is not all black & white. here in Canada we have a capitalist system but also a strong socialist system that protect us from crony capitalism and other bad things capitalism might bring to the people. Only Australia and the Nordic countries have a similar system and Thatcher wanted to push till capitalism became the only thing.

What people always seem 2 4get is that the situation Thatcher walked into in 79' was so bad.. and her Govt managed to turn it around so well.. using the correct principles. The debt our country has now, is nothing compared to the debt's of the late 70's. Don't agree with Thatcher on everything.. but monetarily, she did well!

@williamlander You purport to hail from Cuba-you don't have a choice. Presumably you have a government job.

@muzzster1970 Yes, I would.
@jaguarclaw Under Thatcher, the wages of the poorest 10% fell - but those of all other earners increased. The rapidly declining rate in inflation that followed as a result of her economic policies resulted in higher standards of living because put quite simply - living was affordable again! The unemployment of the era was more a result of previous govts. failing to carry out the vital (and frankly, horrendously painful) task of transforming the economy for the 20th century.

@jaguarclaw That unemployment was a result (mainly) of the economy being transformed from one that was dependent on damaging government subsidy to one able to rely on private enterprise. The program of Privatization made previously basket-case industries world class leaders (i.e. BT, British Airways etc) and brought in vast tax revenues that helped pay for the public sector services they had previously drained money away from in subsidy.
