Sister Rosetta Tharpe Benefit Concert

Gospel and spiritual heavyweights, the Dixie Hummingbirds, Odetta, Marie Knight, Willa Ward, the Johnny Thompson Singers, and the Huff Singers come together for a benefit concert to honor the late gospel music legend, Sister Rosetta Tharpe (1915-1973). This concert will provide funds for a memorial at Sister Rosetta Tharpe's Northwood Cemetary resting place in Philadelphia.

A Benefit Concert was held at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA for the Memorial of Sister Rosetta on Friday, January 11, 2008.

The fabulous, legendary performers featured in this edited version of the show are:

Too bad you had to make the video about you and not about the wonderful ladies paying tribute to one of the greatest talents in history. I would have loved it...but alas, you had to ruin it. Next time, how bout leaving out the part where you're on the stairs, the part where you're burning yourself with espresso, and the part where you're "dancing," then you would've done Rosetta Tharpe justice.

@JACEYFALK Hey, Willa Ward was doing nothing different here than she and her sister and the singers were known for. They have ALWAYS been over the top but Willa Ward is someone's mother and grandmother so lighten up a litlle. And she is 90 years old, still doing 5 nights a week (CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT????!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and in her right mind. At that age you can do whatever you want and get away with it! The Ward singers have ALWAYS been show-offs. LOL. Nothing surprising there!

Willa Ward is disgusting. that fur coat antic was totally disrespectful to God's music and the memory of Rosetta Tharp. It proved that at any age you can have NO class.Rosetta Tharp was not about twisting her ass or flaunting material things. Her voice was pure garbage! Put the time into your voice and praise not into making a fool out of yourself.

willa ward tried to grab the spotlight by putting on the fur coat at the end. she turned it from a rosetta tribute into a willa attribute. shame on her for grandstanding. willa is a blemish on the ward singers legacy!
