Zenith H16 Cobra-Matic Table Phonograph

I saved this from the trash. All I did was replace the cartridge and lube the motor. The only problem left is the reject. The amp is all original and sounds magnificent with it's 3 tubes.

Hi, I just got a Cobra-matic like yours, but it came without the cartridge. Do you remember which cartridge you used on yours? Thanks.

I just jerry rigged it with a common modern cartridge. it is actually taped on the arm. I suggest one with the two screws. IMPORTANT! Make sure it won't damage the records because of the weight of the arm, the needles on the technics tables and similar will not work.

what a weird song...lol. Have a turnable similar to this. but the reject option does not either on mine. Motor is weak. And I am looking to find another one to replace it. Did you know a VM(voice of music) turntable would also work in one of the Zenith consoles? They dont make music sound as good as what you hear on one of these old puppies.!

Original equipment replacement cartridges are readily available for these models, the cartridge simply pulls out of the carrier that flips it from LP to 78, at a good supplier they average about $9. Your reject function may work, but they are incapable of pulling the tone arm up off of the snap. Only snap the tone arm down for transporting the unit around, this prevents it from leaving it's post, flopping around and damaging your needle.

Had to add more. Once you get all the wires connected, then comes the problem if the amp, the motor, or the cartridge even works. the amp would require electronic knowlege. the motor & changer will most likely need a good clean and lub except for the rubber wheel. the cartridge and needle if bad you would have to order from a radio guy.

OK. I think i know what your talking about now. it is the wires that go from the tube amp to the speaker and doesn't deal with the player at all. I haven't really played around with the old speakers. See, the old tube amps required more electricity than transistors and the speaker neads a transformer. On all modern speakers they only need 2 wires and it doesn't matter in what order. the ones with square wire connectors definitenly go to the speaker try a guitar repair shop or try yourself.

They are the wires that connect the tube chassi and the speaker I think. The red, black, and gray wires that lead from the chassi to the turntable should be pretty easy. Their are 2 sets of wires that come off what looks like small square plates on either side of the speaker, and on black wire just above the RCA jack on the chassi? Thank for your time.

In order for me to help you you need to be more specific. If it is the needle cartridge wires, the motor wires, the wires going to the body. If it is the needle cart. and there are only two, it shouldn't matter, if it is stereo, then there is 3 or four. That is where wire colors aren't really standard.

Very nice!  I have a Zenith HF11, but all wire are disconnected. Any chance you could help with some information? Thanks
