Every winter we collect edibles, and cash to be turned into edibles, for Hopelink, a nonprofit helping out Seattle-area families. http://www.hope-link.org/

People in the Lab started finding creative ways to raise money.

What started as an innocent lab-wide email notice quickly devolved into a lengthy chain centered around Chris Love offering blindfolded haircuts, followed by countless declarations of, "I'd pay to see that!" Jenny Hu spearheaded the effort single-handedly raising $1,270 in less than 24 hours. Paul Hellstrom, Nathan Pegram , Shannon Stone and Ryan Smith followed suit bringing the total up to $2,138, providing a solid, if not hilarious, start to our food drive.

Overall, the Lab raised $10,500, which is equivalent to 16650 lbs of food.

  • @gulllars Thanks for the additional stats =)

  • Great work guys.

For those of us using the metric system, 16650 lbs is 7550kg, roughly 7,5 tonnes. To put that into perspective, depending on the density of the food (including packaging), it could be more than can fit in a shipping container. It's also about the same weight as 5-7 cars.
