I have loved and lost people . I believe that our afterlife offers abundant happiness sometimes to love is to let go. My mom was put to rest in July after a life of trial and suffering. Bless your souls. Peace. I'm happy for those who don't have to struggle in this life .

She is so inspirational! Living most if your life in an iron lung sounds terrible. I have a lot of respect for people like her who just keep on:)

@sbeer6er The windows on the side allow caretakers to reach in. I read in the newspaper when she died that she could spend 2 hours a day out of the machine, so that was probably when she bathed.

What a great moral example for all the people out there who feel terribly sad because they ain't the new iPhone, the new Mac Book Pro, or the new iPad! Grow up people! Life and living are far more different than just owning and collecting things!

@drdst17 I'm not certain it requires strength, only surrender. We only suffer when we are in conflict with what is so. That is why some people are at peace on their deathbeds and others are not: the grace of surrender to what is so, to life as it presents itself.

May God rest this woman's soul. To spend an entire lifetime encased in a machine. Few today would have the strength to do this.
Sixty-one years in an iron lung... and a smile. Gives one pause for thought. Rest in peace. Dance on the clouds.
