It's just a good movie trick, they used do use it in advertising. The brain responds to subliminal images that you may not consiencesly be aware of. It's an ordinary scene that still feels threatening because part of the mind registers that there's a monster present. Natural Born Killers used this trick a lot, Cloverfield is very subtle.

JJ abrams placed three diffrent frames threw out the movie ive found so far the first looks like a giant praying mantus the next is this one witch looks like godzilla but people say its from 20,000 fathums then when the chopper crashes there is a fram of king kong.
