Mamady Keita and Sewa Kan - KASSA
Kassa - The word in Malinke, designates equally the grain store as the farmers. This is also one of the rhythms which accompanies harvests. During this period, the peasants leave to work in the fields which are sometimes more than fifteen kilometers (ten miles) from the village. They then establish a camp where they will stay all the time that is necessary. Some girls come along for the preparation of food. The drummers follow the work from field to field while playing KASSA. From time to time, there is dancing in front of the drummers who can be heard all day long. When the work is finished, the return to the village is the occasion for a festival called Kassadalon.
