Who really understands the budget? A trillion is a huge number to grasp. Journalists, it seems, have a hard time comprehending it, which explains why few news stories put the budget deficit in terms the rest of us can easily appreciate.

  • WRONG! The federal government's budget is not at all like a household budget. It's fundamentally different, it's the other side of the balance sheet. State government do function like household budgets. Thinking of the federal govt's budget like a household does a huge disservice to people, it's completely wrong. You can't understand federal govt finances until you understand the difference between a currency user and a currency issuer.
