Tourism in Sullivan County extends beyond race weekends at Bristol Motor Speedway, according to Dr. Steve Morse, economist and Director of the Tourism Research Institute at the University of Tennessee.

On Friday Morse addressed the Kiwanis Club of Kingsport, highlighting the importance of tourism to the Sullivan County economy. Youth athletic tournaments, community festivals and an abundance of natural resources -- which are extra appealing to frugal vacationers and day trippers on tight budgets -- combine to make Sullivan County the state's seventh leading county for tourist spending.

What does that mean for Sullivan County residents? More jobs, less taxes and better services, according to Morse.
