i can see the advantages of having a turretless vehicle in defensive purposes, but how bout an offensive assault? how would they fair without the mobility and effeciency of a turret to aim, fire then quickly switch targets?

Respond to this video... the defintion of a tank is... when one of the first www1 tanks came out ( first one on the video) the british and americans called them "tanks" to trick the germans into thinking they were tanks of water and supplies for the ( very brave may i add) front line fighters , thus, the germans were supprised as the "TANKS" opend hell and slaughterd millions of people

"What a great video! You should make a series!
1. What is a "VEHICLE"?
2. What is a "GUN"?
3. What is a "MILITARY"?
remember to tell them, SNIPER NO SNIPING!"
Interesting video and I do understand what you are saying, but are you completely ruling out the terms IFV & APC and just grouping them into the category of a "tank?"
Or just sub-categories?
It seems like you really looked at the meaning of the original tank, but maybe not so much as how it truly evolved over time. Just my two cents though.

@franknbeans4761 IFV and APC would be sub-sets of types of TANKS. Get the cart and the horse in the proper order and you've got it.

@ 0:42 you show a tank with small cannons mounted in limited traverse turrets on the sides of the vehicle and claim that the tank has no turrets. The Elefant had no turret and as a result was easy prey for anti-tank infantry and more smaller, faster vehicles.

The German turretless STUGs were THE MOST SUCCESSFUL TANKS of WW2. FACT.
