Do you know why when I go to sound, my HD TV doesn't appear on the menu?
-
Two questions:
1) Can you just have your TV as the display and have the macbook screen off?
2) Can you use the TV as a second monitor?

how about the home theatre

@aboodtube
With my Bose home theatre the HDMI works the same.
It depends what system you have. When you go to Sound output your system may show up.

I liked this tutorial. I followed the instructions but my attempts were not successful. The reason I found was that it is not the minidisplayport that is the problem, but the year of the computer. Macs before 2010 cannot use this method will need additional wires to make this work.

@LordFabianshire Yes true. Only after a certain production date does the Minidisplay port support sound. On top of that only some cables support sound.
Good luck!

Im having the same issue as @DJTONYBEE1 and im on a brand new 17" MacbookPro. Any suggestions? Thanks.

@nateberkheimer
Since you are on a brand new Macbook Pro, it should support sound through minidisplay.
So if your TV isn't showing up when you go to sound preferences, your minidisplay to HDMI adapter doesnt support sound.
Where did you buy yours from?
