@425V8 The studio and quad preamps were only used on AJFA and after. Prior to AJFA they had used Mesa/Boogies slaved into Marshall amps (to use the power section) and just straight up Marshalls like I mentioned in my prior post. I don't really remember all too well (I'm not that big into Metallica anymore that post was from 3 years ago LOL) but I believe those preamps (Including the ADA MP-1) were mostly used for lead tones.
AFTER AJFA & the black album they went really CRAZY with gear! haha

Their rig is pretty crazy. Certain songs had mesa studio/quad preamp, ada preamps...kirk used a bradshaw power amp and marshalls for one album. Hetfield even gigs with two diezel vh4s these days

Awesome!
I´m reading in your description that you are using a G Major. Can you switch the channels of the amp with it and use effects at the same time like you can with MIDI or not? And if yes, how?
-
Sheesh. That amp does sound clear as a bell. Really nice tone.
-
Dream rig right here.

Is the distortion in a Krank amp worth it's money?
-
Krank is a PART of his tone. He still uses Mesa rectifiers, Mark IIC+ and all that...he just uses the krankenstein in his mix sometimes.
-
anybody know how a rectifier sounds through those marshall ax.
-

On Kill 'Em All, they used James' modified Marshall amplifier. On Ride the Lightning they also used Marshall amps. On Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All they used Mesa/Boogie Mark IIc + amplifiers with a Marshall poweramp, on 'Metallica', they used Mark IVs with Mesa/Boogie poweramps, on Load and Reload, they used Mesa/Boogie Triaxis preamps and Mesa/Boogie poweramps.
