Hey man, thanks for the lesson, great tone and playing! Any chance of hearing you jam or cover more Derek with the SG? Would love to hear more. Cheers

@jsl209 FYI Derek is my personal favorite for the same reasons you mentioned...his ability to blend so much yet still blow your mind with just one note. Have you seen him live yet?? Highly recommend it...I try to at least once a year. I think I look up to him so much because I just haven't been able to pull of his sound...then you come in after two years (well almost two years) and give me lessons. Basturd!! I mean that with only the best intentions. Best of luck to you man. You got it.

Just want to clarify you've been playing slide for a year and half...but been playing without slide for longer? Because I've been playing for over ten years and it seems like I would need to play for at least a year straight with just the slide to get remotely close to replicating Trucks the way you can. What amp are you playing the SG through? Like the tone...sounds similar to my Blues Jr?..sounds really similiar to Derek and that's technique...thanks for this! really great dude.

@davomontgomeryda3rd Thanks for your kind words. I've been playing slide since January of 09, however I started playing guitar in June/July of 09 (like seriously dedicating myself to practicing), I probably studied music theory just as much if not more a day than I actually practiced for the first 6 months. Memorizing minor penta, major penta, major scale, and mixolydian are key. Derek blends all those scales all the time. Minor and major thirds, sixth notes and the blues note into his style.

@jsl209 Holy shat! Dude you are a true scholar. I took entirely different approach..I can assure you that my route contained no immediate dedication to theory (something that I am just now getting down although I've been in many scales and modes for years, I just based my lead work on what worked and what didn't according to my ears. Now...I'm 27,started when I was 16, I am going back and connecting the dots. But I would def say you have some natural ability in there man!!

@davomontgomeryda3rd Thanks man. I appreciate that. Yea just learning a little bit of theory will go such a long way. All of music will just make a whole lot more sense to you because you will understand "why" it sounds good, and not just simply that hey this sounds good when I do this or that. It's because notes are inherently related to other notes, and our human biology interprets those tones in different emotional ways.
^^Reason why I love music! It's freakin' crazy!^^

@davomontgomeryda3rd In this vid though, I just moved into a new apt, so I am just using a fender vibro champ plugged into my SG, I have a marshall bluesbreaker 2x12 and a fender blues champ that I usually use.

Well done. I'll have to give that one a try.

@SliderBlues Thanks man, let me know if you have any questions I can help ya out with. I know I forgot to say what some placement of notes were so hit me up if you need any help. Working on "I know" right now, beautiful intro, almost got it down. Should have that out maybe by next week.
