There are basically 3 instruments that are generally thought of as being a Banjo. these are the 5 (usually) string, the plectrum & the tenor Banjo, these can all trace their lineage back to the African instruments such as the Akonting and Banza (various spellings) they do not owe their existence to other types of instruments, however many hybrid instruments have been created that are a cross between Banjo &: Ukulele, Mandolin, and in this case Guitar it is normal to refer to the 2 instruments

i have a dean ,and love it. what kind if strings will sound the best? extra light acoustic ?
Trouble with this is the recording is overcooked and the choice of music is all wrong for the banjo 6. If you want to know how good this could be check out Steve Kaufman's "Fun on the 6 String Banjo" - he's just using flatpicking techniques that do real well n this sort of banjo. This demo shows how the 6 string banjo really can't be strummed like this. (Or maybe it's just insensitive playing / recording - tme to do this again Morrell?)

Thanks for the input guys.
Here is the problem, the gentleman in the demo is a representative of Deering. Kinda hard to tell someone how to represent their own product. There is however quite a bit of useful information and history of the instrument in his clips. So please don't be to hard on us.
