  • I really dig the original version, but hearing him play it at his older age really brings something else out of the song.....

    Thanks alot for posting it!

  • Louden Wainwright III wrote it in 1971, guys. You can't call it "his version". It's his song. Others do versions of his song.

  • He still plays amazingly, but his you can hear his voice is going. It's technically not as good as the original, but his voice has so much more emotion, it works so much for the song. Absolutely gorgeous.

to me nothing can beat this^ live version.

  • The Reed Foehl version is quite good as well, but it doesnt have the desperate feel of the original.

  • Got to say my favourite version is the Bombay Bicycle Club version, Jack Steadman makes the lyrical pattern more interesting in my opinion and I think he is a better guitarist than Loudon and Alex Chilton. Although I like the humour in Loudon's version.

  • I was -trying- to remember who I'd heard play this recently. Thanks for reminding me. :)

  • Amazing =/

  • listen the Alex chilton's version in Youtube...

  • So damn cool.
