In this Lifetime Television broadcast segment, Polar Product Expert Jennifer Villani and The Balacing Acts Fitness Expert Adriana Martin discuss training with heart rate, the importance of understanding the intensity aspect of exercise, and how to achieve optimal levels of cardio fitness.

Full transcript: Adriana: Hi. I'm Adriana Martin, and you probably remember me from a few weeks ago when I appeared on the show as the fitness expert, or through my workout DVD for pregnant women. Today I'm on location, and I want to ask you a question. Who do you think has the most consistency and determination as far as working out and staying fit? Well, then take a look at our president and first lady, Obama. Six times a week this dynamic duo get up at 5:30 in the morning to do a 45-minute workout, eat a healthy breakfast, and then go about the stressful business of running the county. Mr. Obama has been quoted saying that the reason why he never misses a workout is because exercise helps him clear his head and relieve stress, but what about you? Are you constantly doing all you can to benefit from your workouts? I know I always try to, but here to really help us is Jennifer Villani from Polar, inc. Welcome!
Jennifer: Hi Adriana, thanks for having me.
Adriana: It's so nice to have you here. And I want to talk about balancing our lives because that is what being a woman is all about. So tell me what happens to us as far as working out and staying fit.
Jennifer: Well, a lot of times we, as women, we overbook ourselves and exercise falls at the wayside. When we do find time, we want to make sure we are doing it correctly.
Adriana: So it's about working out smarter but not harder, and ladies I have the solution for you. Now I've been wearing a heart monitor forever, but never in my life have I seen anything like this. Tell me what this little device is all about.
Jennifer: Well, this is the Polar FT40. This is one of our newest training computers. What it's going to do is help you get your time back. It's going to help you exercise efficiently regardless of the activity that you choose.
Adriana: That's amazing, and how does it do it?
Jennifer: One of the key features of the FT40 is it will allow you, regardless of which exercise you choose, if you're in your fat burning zone, or you are in your fitness zone, which is improving overall cardiovascular fitness, strong heart, healthy lungs, etc. The other thing it's going to do is count calories during your exercise session as well as when you're done, total exercise time, and your heart rate. The other cool thing is it stores 50 exercise files, so at any point, you can go back in and review what you've done. Speaking of reviewing what you've done, we also offer a web service which is free, called www.Polarpersonaltrainer.com, so the FT40 seamlessly goes into this free online community where you can share your exercise sessions with your family, friends, etc.
Adriana: I love it. I want one to match every outfit.
Jennifer: Well we have the beige which I'm wearing, the green which your wearing, and then we have a black unisex or male version as well.
Adriana: Where can we buy the Polar FT40?
Jennifer: Well you can visit any of your local retailers, fitness facilities, or online, and it's the perfect gift for your mom, your friend, anyone that's trying to get into fitness.
Adriana: What an amazing little computer. Thank you so much for being on the show.
Jennifer: Pleasure. Thanks for having me.
Adriana: Ladies, if you want more information on the Polar FT40, go to www.thebalanacingact.com/Polar.
