  • Of the figure, 200 billion yuan RMB (29.3 billion dollars) has been allotted in various kinds of subsidies, with an annual average growth rate of 20 percent, and 110 billion yuan RMB (16.1 billion dollars) has gone to fixed assets investment, including construction of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

    Considering Tibet's special conditions, the Central Government has been offering aid to the region in various fields since the reform and opening up drive was initiated in 1979.

  • The Central Government's investment has focused on Tibet's agriculture, infrastructure construction, science and technology, education, and ecological environment protection.

    The Central Government has been providing more aid to Tibet since 2001. During the 10th Five-Year Plan period (2001-2005) alone, it allocated 37 billion yuan RMB (5.4 billion dollars) to Tibet in subsidies and 31.2 billion yuan RMB (4.5 billion dollars) to 117 projects.
