@roaddemon20011 Yes, most automatic cars came with 2.56 gears, but depending on what T/A option you had some came with 3.23 mostly in 4 spd. cars. 78 4 spd cars came with 3.42 gears and 3.23. You got to hand it to Pontiac for keeping the 400 around in those days, and trying to get good gas milage out of them. The government had the chock hold on performance cars.

@dukeallen2001 sorry, every one had a 2.56 posi. i know .you couldn't give me 10 grand ams for one of my trans ams. every one has a 2.56 posi. every single trans am and firebird i cracked had it. not a single 3.23. my personal fave is an 80 with a 76 pontiac 400 , i built, 350 turbo , 2.56 posi. 72 mph in first gear , 127 in second, and speedo stops at 160. couldn't tell you top speed. not a grand am.

The car was great (in looks and handling) yet, this commercial is laughable. Could they have filmed the car from farther away? These buggies were born to handle, and this ad showed none of that.
