Colourful carnivals, fiestas and parades are part of life for people in Brazil, bringing communities together in solidarity to celebrate.
But they also have a serious side.
Parts of the city of Recife have murder rates as high as some war zones. CAFOD partner Tarrafa teaches dance and drumming. It uses carnivals to bring communities together and create a positive alternative to a reality where drugs, crime and killings are an everyday experience.
