Hello Everyone,

I'm Nikka Silva. I was born on Dec 06, 2002 with a congenital defect where my billary system did not develop. I was diagnosed to have Billary Atresia, a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts that occurs in infants. It occurs in about one in 10,000 children. Symptoms of the disease appear or develop about two to eight weeks after birth. Cells within the liver produce liquid called bile. Bile helps to digest fat. It also carries waste products from the liver to the intestines for excretion. This is why at the age of 3 months I have to undergo surgery "kasai procedure" which helped me live a normal. During my early years i was in and out of the hospital several times but those occasions did not stop me in fighting for life.

Last August, I have to be admitted again, but this time the doctors told my parents that my liver is on its advance cirrhotic stage. My spleen is getting bigger and my vains around my liver are already affected. My parents have no choice but to agree with the doctors for a Liver Transplantation. Cost of the operation is a major concern for my parents at the same time matching in liver transplant has always been an important factor for a successful operation. After several checkups and testing we did not find anyone compatible in the family. Fortunately I was able to find an angel by my side "Gigalet", our KASAMBAHAY for two years and who took care of me is a perfect match. She generously agreed without anything in return to have a partial liver grafts taken from her.

In the coming days I will be scheduled for my operation once everything is ok at The Medical City (which has the most complete facilities for LIVER TRANSPLANTATION). I'm still now battling some infections and pneumonia inside the ICU. Hopefully I will be fine before Christmas to have enough strength to undergo the operation.

If it's not asking too much, my Christmas wish is your prayers and support. Thank you in advance for all the HELP.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
