i wouldn't play with the .40's in small pistols. 9mm actually does better than .40 in short barrelled guns.

PT709 in crossbreed mini or supertuck, or you can go paddle or same iwb's from crossbreed, P10. Both setups are very comfortable. Incredibly small profile and if you go with the iwb's, you can tuck in your shirt. You just need to find holster placement so you can sit down at church without looking all funny moving around. I think tarus makes a 40 version of the 709 just one less round. At that point you might just want to go with a snub nose revolver.

Most people say caliber doesn't matter it is all about shot placement, but with a high stress level in self defense there will be a good chance you may only hit the guy once depending on range. Either one can be good if you go with the proper HP maybe even a +P if in 9mm. But the .40 is more likely to slow the person down. Both calibers are great choices and there is not much of a difference in recoil. This is just my opinion from what I have all researched.

your "mostly" right about calibers. i would gladly give you a .25cal and let you shoot at me from 25+ yards. you could probably do more damage by throwing the gun at me. but as a "gut gun" its ok at close range.... very close range.
