A contemporary of Raffaele Calace and Giuseppe Manente, Arrigio Cappelletti (1877-1946) wrote numerous pieces for mandolin ensemble in a traditional, lyrical Italian style that are still popular with mandolin orchestras worldwide today. This composition, like many other fine works for this instrument strength, are found in the public Nakano Mandolin Music Collection brought together by the Japanese scholar, composer, guitarist and mandolinist Jiro Nakano (1902-2000). The "Mistica" by Arrigio Cappelletti is a beautiful example of a slow tempo composition that shows the polyphonic beauty of sound created by a mandolin orchestra. Especially there where superb tremolo lines in the upper and middle voices are carried by carefully placed chords and bass notes the tremolo of the mandolin indeed comes very close to, perhaps even equals the singing voice of the violin.
