the man that voiced the sounds of the werewolf (not the poem at the beginning) is Kearney Barton and he died a couple days ago. R.I.P.Kearney

My name is Ashleigh- My uncle Don was the drummer in this band :D I love his bands music and am always proud to see The Frantics shown at the EMP in Seattle :)

A Classic!

i can clear this up since i played bass in the frantics. the original release had on the flip side a rocker called "checkerboard". when the payola scandal hit right as this record reached #53 with a bullet in its second week on the charts, the wolf howls were eliminated and "no werewolf" was on the b side of the re-release. the poem at the beginning is the voice of bob reisdorff, the wolf howls are kearney barton, and the scream at the end is bonnie guitar. and there you have the truth.

Great Great Song :)

if you flip the original pressing of "werewolf" over you'll find "no werewolf" on the flip side. i have great memories of this record, in the summer of 1960, that cute little teenage girl would slide close to me in my 55 chevy when this would come on the radio. she was to be my loving wife for almost 50 years. in the early 80s i talked to nokie edwards about this record, i always thought it was the ventures, he said the frantics were a group who sounded like the ventures.

Jerry Miller of Moby Grape fame played in the final incarnation of the Frantics

@overbrookXXX It's all good man. I like both versions, but I am a little biased towards The Ventures because of the face I grew up with them and Mel Taylor is one of my all-time favorite drummers. The Frantic's version of this song rocks for sure though : )

@overbrookXXX I never said it was the same recording. You should read before jumping to conclusions. Record labels that Instrumental bands were signed to in the 1960s did this kind of thing all the time. One song may be called "Werewolf" then another band records the same song and renames it "The Fourth Dimension" or vise versa to try and give their band some kind of an advantage. There are tons of songs that are the exact same that were later re-named, or re-named for a different country.
any more information or videos or audio of the band????
they seem they deserve some attention!

The (four) frantics were a mid 50s to mid 60s instrumental group from Seattle. Their music was, jazz, rhythm n blues and rock n roll influenced but with a "teen-pop" feeling. Their first 45' single was "Straight Flash / Young blues" in 1959. They also played as a back up group for Bobby Darin.
you can find more of their work in the "complete frantics on dolton" compilation.
