"Engines of that size don't even get close to the mpg of a 2.0~3.5 gas engines." The reason why is because those 2.0~3.5 are not in a 7,000 pound vehicle. My friend has a diesel VW, and gets 48 MPG. That's better than a Prius! Now imagine a diesel hybrid, it would blow any gas engine away both in MPG and in engine life.
