Sarah Palin
McCain/Palin Rally
Lee's Summit, MO 09/08/08

TRANSCRIPT: SARAH PALIN: So we got back to basics and we put government back on the side of the people. I eliminated taxes on personal property. I eliminated taxes that were hurting small businesses. Property taxes were just too high so I cut rates every year I was in office and these reforms worked and we took off. As Governor, I brought the same agenda of positive change then to the state. We took on the old politics as usual in Juneau and we broked [sic] the monopoly that controlled our state and that was the special interests and the lobbyists surrounding the big oil companies. We came to office promising major ethics reform to end the culture of closed doors, self dealing. Today that ethics reform is the law of the state. And you know, as Mayor and as Governor, I tried to lead by example. So, as Mayor, I took a voluntary pay cut, which didnt really thrill my husband. And then as Governor, I cut the personal chef position from the budget, which didnt really thrill my kids. And then, I put the state- the government state checkbook- I put it online for all the world to see. Youre going to see every penny that we spend. Doing that didnt thrill all the bureaucrats, but okay. And then the luxury jet, it came with the office, but I put it on eBay. I came to office promising to control spending, by request if possible, but by veto if necessary. Today, our state budget is under control. We have a surplus. I put the veto pen to almost half a billion in wasteful spending. We suspended the state fuel tax and now that we have a surplus, and Im returning a chunk of that surplus straight back to the people because they can spend it better than government can spend it- give your money back to the hardworking Alaskans and in these tough times, Im ready to help John McCain bring tax relief to all Americans. I champion earmark reform youre going to hear about this from the Senator to stop Congress from wasting public money on these that dont serve the public interest. I told Congress, thanks but no thanks for that bridge to nowhere. If our state wanted to build the bridge, we would build it ourselves.

  • Today's Wall Street Journal" summaries the evidence on Palin's repeated statements: "Record Contradicts Palin's 'Bridge' Claims".

Then it reviews her appalling record on earmarks :"Gov. Palin has requested $750 million in her two years as governor -- which is the largest per-capita request in the nation."

That's $1000 in earmarks for each Alaskan, but much less than the $4000 she actually received for each Wasillan when mayor.

She balanced both budgets with taxes taken from other Americans.

  • Palin is the most incompenent politician I'v ever seen!

  • I am so proud of Governor Palin, she stands up for everything that is good and honorable about America. She will help McCain clean up Washington and keep taxes down. She will help bring energy independence and jobs to America. McCain/Palin '08.

  • Albert and I as does Mary Elizabeth (Tipper) and even our other World Peace Patriot Richard Branson want you to know for the sake of 35 kids murdered at BayPoint School to ensure George W Bush would win the 2000 and 2004 election. Thank you HBO for making the movie RECOUNT and saying Choice Point Software and BayPoint School.

Its time people start screaming in the Streets

AL Gore Jeff Fisher World Peace

Jeff Fisher a True World Peace Patriot that tells the NWO to go away!!!

  • After all this, you still don't know what is being investigated? Plain and simple: Governor Palin's using her political power to overturn the outcome of a previously settled personnel matter. THAT is what is being investigated.

You see, wrb1957, as I now have to repeat for you, Wooten was already investigated a year ago, and a punishment meted out to him for his transgressions.

Walt Monagan is not accused of any crime. Not even wrb1957 has accused him of anything. Crimes are a judicial matter.

  • I wanted to make sure I researched this thoroughly, and I after an exhaustive study, I can tell you that Wooten is NOT still under investigation. I don't know where you come up with this fiction.

I'd be interested to know why you believe Walt Monagan's official title "Department of Public Safety commissioner" is relevant. The man you baselessly accuse of being "an abusive drunk" is an Alaska STATE trooper which is exactly why Mike Wooten would fall under the STATE Department of Public Safety.

  • Sure, she could have hired anyone she wanted if the seat was VACANT, but since Monagan ALREADY was the police commissioner, firing him for no good reason is an ethical violation. Why is this so difficult for you to understand?

As far as your false claim that anyone else would do ten years in prison, that would NEVER happen if they weren't charged with a crime. And as has been said numerous times (yet you still can't seem to comprehend), WOOTEN WAS NEVER CHARGED WITH A CRIME. Get it?

    Good.

  • Your description of what I said is a complete distortion. Trooper Mike Wooten has NOT been charged with a crime. You have no evidence that he beat his wife or drove drunk. He does admit to tasering his stepson. But he has already served a 5-day suspension.

So explain to me how pressuring the police commissioner to fire your brother-in-law, then firing the commissioner for not doing it is "doing the right thing." Governor Palin has no respect for the judicial process, and that is pretty scary.

  • Your posts clearly demonstrate it is YOU who has no clue how government actually works. There are ethics laws that governors are required to adhere to, and it's quite obvious Palin has chosen to ignore them.

I am quite confident that if given the chance, the Alaska State legislature will investigate this matter thoroughly. So hopefully, Palin and the McCain campaign will stop interfering in the ongoing investigation by delaying the case through "jurisdictional" tactics.

  • Your post is complete nonsense, wrb1957. The accusations made by Walt Monagan are ABSOLUTELY SUBSTANTIATED. There are tape-recordings readily available in professional news reports of Palin staff members trying to pressure Walt Monagan to fire Wooten.

Palin has no jurisdiction over the firing of Alaska state troopers. These are union workers protected by contractual agreements made with state governments. She violated those agreements by overstepping her bounds through staff and family members.

  • This is the first time you are bringing up "those issues" wrb1957. And for the record, I agree she's done a better job then her predecessors. But that's only because Alaska politicians are some of the most corrupt, self-dealing bunch in the nation.

Secondly, I am not the one who made personal attacks against Palin. Palin fired Walt Monagan and HE says she did it because he failed to settle her family feud. So don't point the finger at me, when you know it's her fellow colleagues accusing her.
