SEE some of the most rare footages and photographs in color of Cambodia in the 1920's. Cambodia was a beautiful and colorful nation to be seen by the Europeans. Ang Choulean a popular Fine Arts teacher at the Phnom Penh University who wrote and published many books in trying to keep Khmer beautiful Arts and Culture alive.

"At the sight of this temple, one feels one's spirit crushed, one's imagination surpassed. One looks, one admires, and, seized with respect, one is silent. For where are the words to praise a work of art that may not have its equal anywhere on the globe? ... What genius this Michalangelo of the East had, that he was capable of concaving such a work." He said: "See Angkor and Die." Henri Mouhot

  • Ang Choulean, believe me or not, he sucks. He is a professor at Royal University of fine arts and wrote a lot of books, but most of them were copied from existing books written by someone else lols

  • But still he wrote it right? what have you written? lol

  • People who write something by copy from others, doesn't call writting, it calls "PLAGIARISM". Even you are a student doing your assignment and if you teacher find out you copy from other writters, then you will get an F. He yelling at students at RUFA not to copy, but he doesn't look at himself.

  • Well the world is evolve with copying depend how much better you can do it. If you have problems with his work you should take on him because I don't know any of you story. Even I do a lot of copy and paste....

  • My grandfather said the french didn't just restore angkor wat,he said they loot the temple treasures as well.

  • Yes the French took many artifacts, if you want to know how much visit the French museum. And they figures out where most treasures are hidden by identify the interpretation of each statue which houses around the temple.

  • Wish i had a time machine.

  • I totally agreed. I am not saying Buddhism is bad. Khmer Empire lasted 600 years and Khmers were Hindus/Brahmans. Khmer History would have been different since the reigning of King Jayavarman VII.

  • @unknownally it means that women (of the high class and servers of the king) were used for sex and or prophet of it. women of high class were to represent the height of the cambodian culture (even today) and were modeled after the celestial maidens of angkor wat, the apsaras.

  • Wow..Now I will study French to learn about Cambodia's past history...

  • My mom was born on 1925.Thank you the video!

  • fucked me too.

  • I watched this other documentary on YouTube about a Chinese explorer who visited Angkor (During the time it was inhabitted and not in ruins).

He wrote in his journal that women were topless and "highly sexed." I don't know what that means.

  • khmer pride xD

  • me too. I swear nobody has any idea how I got into so many aspects of traditional culture. I even started doing traditional dance style since young and I had never seen it. Scary. It's as if I am living my past lives accumulation of talents. I swear I should have been born a hundred or two years ago.
